STARTING POINT.

Everyone assumes that it’s a knowledge-gap when it comes to physique development. The client will only come to you if you can tell them something they don’t already know. This isn’t true…

Sam was no stranger to building muscle tissue, but he was also no stranger to losing it. This created a situation where a coach that is highly capable of achieving something, started to doubt themselves.

“I decided to get coaching because I lost my confidence a little, coming from 3 years of focusing on endurance.”

Sam was ultra-fit, had built muscle before, but just needed some guidance and accountability towards his goals. He needed someone he could trust, to tell him to take action.

As you can see from the photos, our starting composition was excellent for building muscle tissue, but energy levels were relatively low and it was clear that more food would be needed to push performance.

GAINING PHASE…

The primary focus for us, and the initial goal was to build muscle.

As we know, building muscle can be tediously slow, but Sam responded incredibly well due to his work ethic and willingness to put in the time.

6 months later, we were 10kg up and Sam was looking and feeling strong.

However, that’s not to say we didn’t have obstacles.

Dealing with some nerve damage in the abdomen due to previous surgery, Sam had a challenging time consuming a high food intake. We had to come up with solutions to maintain a calorie surplus without diminishing his quality of life.

We also communicated openly on programming decisions, to make sure as much of Sam’s training was pain-free whilst also providing hypertrophic stimulus.

“I have a habit of overthinking things and doing too much. Jack has an uncanny knack of explaining things before they arise. This takes away any uncertainty and overwhelm.”

DIET PHASE…

The photoshoot was never planned into our roadmap.

We just started a short dieting phase to strip away body fat for a holiday, and provide some temporary relief to the abdomen.

Being the opportunistic person that Sam is, he suggested capitalising on the dieting phase and transitioning into a photoshoot prep - so that’s exactly what we did!

The last 5-6 weeks of the diet we dialled in our efforts and made sure there were no stones unturned to bring the best physique possible.

“This month marks one year working with jack and in that time I have successfully navigated a maintenance phase and regained my pre cycling physique. This then led to a fat loss phase and photoshoot which I never thought was possible all inside one year!”
